Former WWE Superstar Mike Bennett was recently a guest on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast, and he commented on his final run in WWE before being released. As you may recall, when Paul Heyman was in charge of RAW as its Executive Director, he had Bennett involved in a cuckold storyline with real-life wife Maria Kanellis.
Confirming that Heyman helped get him signed - effectively making Bennett a "Paul Heyman Guy" - the former 24/7 Champion praised the one-time WCW boss for always being honest with him.
"[Heyman] was the one I talked to right before I asked for my release because he was always brutally honest," Bennett explained. "He told me straight up that they view me as a good hand and that’s all they will ever view you as. I thought at least somebody had the balls to tell me that. I was always thankful that he essentially told me how everyone felt."
"I’m not going to work for somebody that views me as a good hand. I want to be more than that and that was where I had the turning point and the change in my brain where it was time to ask for my release for the third time."
It's definitely worth checking out the full interview with Bennett, but this story is an interesting contrast to what AJ Styles said about his time working with Heyman and how he handled The O.C.'s release.
