No Way Jose was a hit in NXT, but he's never found much success on the main roster. In fact, he was only ever really used as a jobber, so the fact he was among the Superstars released by WWE wasn't exactly a surprise.
During a recent interview, he explained that he knew releases were coming from WWE after the company sent out a video from Vince McMahon explaining that there would be a budget cuts as a result of COVID-19. After seeing some of his friends get their release, he later received a call from Mark Carrano making his official as well.
Now, he's hinted that when he makes his presence felt in the squared circle moving forward, he intents on leaving his No Way Jose character behind him. "It’s tough not because now I have to either try to go back into that [character] or try to come up with something completely different," he explained.
"As good as the character was for me in terms of making a living, I don’t want to continue that character. I just feel like it did what it did and if people want to book me for that or whatever, it’s gonna be possibly one off or whatnot but I have so much more to show. I have a more serious side, I have an aggressive side."
