WWE ratings have been on the decline for a while, and there's simply no denying that the pandemic has only served to make things worse. However, with fans set to return to shows starting with tonight's SmackDown, the company plans to pull out all the stops over the coming weeks (and hopefully months).
We're expecting some big surprises this evening and during Sunday's Money in the Bank, but Fightful Select is now reporting that WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg will be on RAW this Monday.
Apparently, the plan is for an angle that will set the stage for Goldberg to challenge Bobby Lashley to a match at SummerSlam. You have to believe the WWE Championship will be involved, so chances are The All Mighty will retain the title when he faces Kofi Kingston on Sunday. With fans in attendance, many hoped we might get a big babyface win at Money in the Bank, but it seems not.
SummerSlam would mark Goldberg's final contracted match in 2021, but after the last few, it's hard to believe there will be that much excitement to see him face Lashley. This match could have been great a few years ago, but Bill hasn't been at his best for some time now, and embarrassing botches have sadly become the norm when he competes.
We're certainly hopeful Lashley is able to elevate it, though, and if this is leading to him facing Brock Lesnar...well, it might be worth getting through what's likely to be an only okay match.
