There have been rumors that Bill Goldberg might be set to return to WWE doing the rounds for a while, and we're now hearing that the WCW Legend's appearance in the ThunderDome during the main event of Friday's season premiere of SmackDown was indeed to set the wheels in motion for a possible feud with Roman Reigns.
Of Course, The Tribal Chief was supposed to challenge then Universal Champion Goldberg for the title at WrestleMania 36, but plans changed when Roman decided to step away from the company for a while, and Bill ended up dropping the belt to Braun Strowman.
Goldberg recently made some derogatory remarks about Reigns during an interview, further fuelling speculation that he may soon return for a showdown with The Big Dog. Now, Inside The Ropes has heard that plans are indeed in place for Goldberg's return, and he could wind up facing Reigns for the title at either WrestleMania or the Royal Rumble.
Most fans probably won't be too ecstatic about the prospect of seeing the now 53-year-old Goldberg in the ring again, especially after a couple of disastrous matches against The Undertaker and Bray Wyatt. There's no denying that his name does still have drawing power, however, and that seems to be all Vince McMahon cares about.
"We’re also told Vince McMahon couldn’t care less what anyone thinks about him using Goldberg," the site adds. "The head honcho still believes there is value in the Goldberg name. One might argue that lessens every time the 53-year-old performs, but McMahon appears locked in to use Goldberg for a few years yet."
