WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg made his surprise WWE return at Bad Blood last year and later confirmed that he will get his long-overdue, long-awaited retirement match in 2025.
At the PLE mentioned above, Goldberg very nearly came to blows with World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. The prevailing theory now is that the Imperium leader will be the one who puts the WCW icon out to pasture.
During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Goldberg once again addressed former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon's failure to give him the final match he was promised.
"Vince had promised me another match because not too many people know this, but I took the Roman match with like a month prior notice, and I had COVID," he explained. "That’s not the way to go out."
"I always, in the bottom of my heart, wanted to go out and present myself in a little bit more positively than I was able to. I mean, Paul and I spoke and we came to an agreement that in 2025 I’d have my retirement match," he continued before talk turned to Gunther. "He’s the new generation. I’m the old generation."
"It’s kind of like a passing of the torch in a way. I wouldn’t turn that one down by any stretch of the imagination. You don’t ever open your mouth in front of my wife and my son negatively about me," the former WWE Champion concluded.
One person we won't see Goldberg step into the ring with is former WWE Superstar Matt Riddle. He previously called Goldberg "the worst wrestler in the business" in a bid to build buzz around himself when he was in NXT and because he hoped they might one day square off.
Now on the independent circuit, Riddle took more shots at him while speaking with Going Ringside. "William - Willie G, as I like to call him - Willie G, I hope everything’s good," he stated. "You’re in your mansion, your mansion in Texas. Your bank account is definitely way bigger than mine, especially now since I’ve been fired."
"But let’s be real, bro. At the end of the day, I whooped that ass 10 times out of 10 - maybe even 11 times out of 10. You know it. Your kids know it. Your family knows it. The universe knows it," Riddle added.
You can hear more from Goldberg - no, he doesn't mention Riddle - in the player below.
