When news broke that Cody Rhodes had parted ways with AEW, we immediately started hearing rumblings that the former TNT Champion would return to WWE. Well, despite a couple of tongue in cheek hints here and there, that's yet to happen despite the fact WrestleMania is drawing ever closer.
Now, there's speculation that talks between Rhodes and WWE may have broken down. According to Bodyslam.net (the site that broke the news about CM Punk and Bryan Danielson's respective AEW debuts), things between the two sides have "fizzled out" and there's renewed hope he could return to AEW. Some are even theorising that Cody could be put in charge of the AEW-owned Ring of Honor.
Dave Meltzer has countered that report, though, saying "Vince McMahon didn’t think they fizzled as of two days ago." As a result, we have to assume he's probably still WWE-bound for now.
Rhodes left AEW after contract talks broke down between the two sides, though there's been speculation he was unhappy with his role in the company for some time. It's become clear he has more of a sports entertainment approach to pro wrestling than some of his fellow EVPs, so if a WWE return is happening, then he'll no doubt fit right in. For now, we're just going to have to wait and see.
What do you hope the future holds in store for Cody Rhodes?
