According to the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, NXT Superstar Matt Riddle has filmed a vignette at the WWE Performance Center this week which will help introduce him to the SmackDown brand. It's unclear whether this will be aired during tonight's show, but it certainly seems likely.
During Wednesday night's NXT main event, Riddle lost to Timothy Thatcher in the first-ever "Cage Fight" on the brand. That was supposed to write Riddle off the show, and put Thatcher over in the process.
WWE has reportedly been planning to call Riddle up to the "main roster" for months now, but plans were put on hold when WrestleMania moved from the Raymond James Stadium on Tampa Bay to the empty WWE Performance Center. Now, though, things are beginning to fall into place, hence why his SmackDown debut is imminent.
Interestingly, there's been some chatter that Riddle has been called up for contract reasons as that was nearing its end, and WWE knew he could go and sign anywhere he wanted for more money than he makes in NXT (main roster wrestlers still get paid more than those in the "developmental" brand).
