At Money in the Bank, IYO SKY won the women's briefcase and later cashed in at SummerSlam to become the new WWE Women's Champion.
Bianca Belair had just defeated former champion Asuka and Charlotte Flair in a Triple Threat match but SKY capitalised on the situation to ensure the EST's title reign lasted mere minutes. As she and Bayley celebrated in the ring, Damage CTRL's Dakota Kai surprised fans by joining them.
However, since Kai's return, we've yet to see her wrestle.
PWInsider Elite has today shared an update, revealing that while Kai is currently travelling to SmackDown tapings, she won't be cleared for in-ring action anytime soon. The former Women's Tag Team Champion tore her ACL back in May and later underwent surgery.
It's unclear what the timeline is for Kai's recovery, though we're hoping it won't be too long before she can get back to performing. Unfortunately, the site doesn't elaborate on how long they anticipate it being before she's cleared but we'll obviously keep you updated.
Kai previously won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships on two occasions with SKY. Their second reign lasted for 100 days.
In NXT, she won the inaugural Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, and is a former two-time NXT Women's Tag Team Champion. However, WWE released her in April 2022 before Triple H made the decision to bring her back later that same year in order to form the Damage CTRL stable.
Prior to her signing with WWE, Crowley wrestled under the ring name Evie, and appeared for Impact Pro Wrestling (IPW) in her native New Zealand, Pro Wrestling Women's Alliance (PWA) in Australia, American promotions Shimmer Women Athletes and Shine Wrestling, as well as Japanese promotions Pro Wrestling Zero1 and World Wonder Ring Stardom.
