As you may have heard, the original plan at WrestleMania was for Asuka to defeat Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women's Championship. Then, she would have remained undefeated until next year's Showcase of the Immortals and would have squared off in a huge money match with Ronda Rousey.
WWE even started getting Asuka to do the armbar during her matches around the time the UFC star was signed and now Dave Meltzer has shed more light on WWE's original plans. "Originally, this match [at WrestleMania] was going to involve multiple armbar attempts," he reveals before confirming that directive changed out of the blue when "she was told ‘no more armbars.'"
Somewhere along the line, WWE decided that Asuka vs. Ronda Rousey wasn't the way they wanted to go and it now appears as if we'll see the latter go to war with Rousey instead either at SummerSlam or next year's WrestleMania. That would make one hell of a main event for either of these shows...
