While Corey Graves tried valiantly to sell his wife's return to WWE as one of the year's biggest moments, the response from fans when Carmella show up at the Royal Rumble was noticeably muted.
Pairing her up with Chelsea Green certainly seemed to help matters, though, and the duo had all the makings of an entertaining tag team. However, during Monday night's episode of RAW, Adam Pearce gave Green a new tag team partner in the form of the returning Sonya Deville with no explanation for Carmella's absence.
They ended up qualifying for WrestleMania's 4-way women's tag team match, while Ronda Rousey (who we were led to believe was sidelined with an injury) will also compete in the bout.
According to Fightful Select, "Carmella [has] been 'sidelined,' but didn’t indicate why." The site later went on to dismiss the notion that she has backstage heat, calling the rumours "ridiculous."
Perhaps confirming that is the fact she's currently in Los Angeles doing promotional work for WWE. Reading between the lines, we'd guess that a medical issue is what's sidelined the former Women's Champion, especially after reading the Tweet below.
Carmella's last match was a 10-woman tag team bout at a WWE Live event in New York City's Madison Square Garden on March 12. We last saw her on television during the March 6 edition of RAW where she lost a non-title match to RAW Women's Champion Bianca Belair.
Now, Green and Deville will face Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan, Natalya and Shotzi, and Rousey and Shayna Baszler at the Show of Shows this weekend.
We wish Carmella all the best and hope to see her back soon. Stay tuned for updates.
