Ronda Rousey successfully made the leap from mixed martial arts to professional wrestling and her transition from UFC to WWE is one she made look easy.
Unfortunately, WWE's decision to book the Baddest Woman on the Planet as a smiling babyface led to a disconnect with fans and Rousey clearly grew frustrated with being booed. A heel turn came too little too late and the damage was done by the time she eventually returned.
Now, someone who should have been WWE's biggest Superstar feels like just another woman on the roster. It's not exactly surprising then that Rousey is expected to leave the company once her feud with Shayna Baszler wraps up at SummerSlam.
Over the past 24 hours or so, rumours have swirled about Rousey looking to step back into the Octagon for a UFC return, news which has excited MMA fans.
"I’ve been hearing Ronda is coming back," UFC fighter Chelsea Chandler claimed in a recent interview. "I’ve heard she’s coming back at 145. You never know. If I got out there and put on the performance I plan on putting [on], I’ll welcome her to 145. I think it would be a great fight."
"It has been a long time for her, and things change, people get better, and I think people are on to her one-trick-pony armbar. Money talks, and she would bring eyes to the sport again. I feel like her time in WWE is starting to go down, so I’d like to see it."
The last time Rousey fought in UFC was in a losing effort to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in December 2016 in a 48-second TKO. A return so she can end her career with a win makes sense, but Ariel Helwani has today debunked Chandler's claims.
Ultimately, Rousey has nothing to prove, but we'll be sure to let you know if anything changes!
