It Looks Like Samoa Joe May Be Lining Up As The Next #1 Contender For The WWE Championship

Shinsuke Nakamura will get another shot at AJ Styles' WWE Championship this Sunday at Backlash, but even if he's victorious, it looks like a certain Samoan Submission Machine will be waiting in the wings...

Tonight on SmackDown LIVE, Samoa Joe interrupted AJ Styles as he was cutting a promo on his Backlash opponent Shinsuke Nakamura, promising that whoever won that WWE Championship no DQ match would have to face him next.

While that doesn't necessarily mean that Joe will be the next #1 contender, it seems like a pretty safe bet. Of course, it also suggests that Styles will retain the title this Sunday, as The Artist taking on The Destroyer would be heel vs. heel - unless there's a Joe face-turn on the cards after he's done with Roman Reigns.

There are obviously quite a few possibilities, but the prospect of former TNA rivals Styles and Joe going one-on-one in a WWE ring for the first time is certainly an exciting one.
