Unfortunately, it was always hard to imagine Rusev winning the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules last night and it was indeed AJ Styles who ended up emerging victorious at the PPV. Despite that, the Bulgarian Brute proved throughout the match that he was what it takes to be a main event Superstar in WWE and it will obviously be very interesting seeing where things go for him from here.
Things ended when Rusev ended up hitting a turnbuckle exposed by his ally Aiden English, something which allowed Styles to hit a 450 Splash and Phenomenal Forearm to score the 1-2-3.
It was a competitive back and forth bout which saw Rusev score a number of near falls. What will be interesting now is whether or not his partnership with English ends, especially as he played a big role in costing the former United States Champion the title. It's also worth noting that Rusev wrestled as a heel so whether or not that will change on SmackDown Live this Tuesday remains to be seen.
