We recently reported on a rumor that Jeff Hardy was being lined up as the next challenger for AJ Styles' Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam, but this past Friday, that match was made official for next week's episode of SmackDown. However, we're now hearing that these two may also clash at the PPV two days later.
According to Dave Meltzer, Styles vs. Hardy is still scheduled to take place at SummerSlam despite their title match being announced for SmackDown after the two came to blows during a segment on this past Friday's episode. If this is true, expect some kind of interference or false finish for their encounter this Friday which will result in a rematch being made for the PPV on Sunday.
Meltzer also reports that the Styles/Hardy feud was originally supposed to begin several weeks ago, but those plans were "erased" by Vince McMahon for some reason.
This wouldn't be the first time WWE has left it 'till the very last minute to begin an angle in the lead up to a PPV, but despite the late start to their feud, The Phenomenal One and the Charismatic Enigma should have a hell of a match... or matches if we do see them face off again at SummerSlam.
