Despite being WWE's handpicked golden boy, Roman Reigns also appears to be one of the most unpopular wrestlers within the company. After all, he's booed by fans each and every week but that hasn't stopped him being pushed to the top of the card and merchandise sales point to a lot of fans actually being on board with the Big Dog. So, what's the deal with the reaction Reigns always gets?
Well, Jim Ross has said he believes it's only being done because fans think it's "the cool thing to do" and that the response he gets from them isn't actually indicative of how the vast majority fans feel.
"I just think it’s almost like when Angle comes out, it’s, ‘you suck!’, ‘Cena sucks’… I think people think it’s the thing to do and they’re not hip or cool if they don’t do it. I just think it’s a topical thing. That’s the best answer I’ve got for you. I don’t know why it would be. And nobody can tell us why exactly it is. We’ve all got a theory and that’s all it is. Let it play out"
"And I had a little experience in talent relations. I would have no issues hiring Roman Reigns today even if I knew what adventure it would be in head of us. He’s that big a talent."
It's an interesting point but one it's hard to agree with. While there probably is an element of this among hardcore fans, if Reigns was loved by the majority, the boos would be quieter than the cheers! As Ross has noted, we have to just wait and see how it play out but providing ratings stay steady, WWE Network numbers increase, and Reigns shifts merchandise, he's going nowhere for now.
