Yes, Jinder Mahal really is your new WWE Champion.

Mahal emerging as number #1 contender recently was enough to raise a few eyebrows, but most of us assumed his seemingly out-of-the-blue push was simply down to a lack of any truly hateful heels on the Smackdown Live roster for Randy Orton to feud with, and wouldn't actually amount to much. Well, how wrong we were.

After a solid match at WWE Backlash last night, Mahal was able to hit his Cobra Clutch Slam and pin The Viper to become the new champ. This was only possible after Orton became distracted by The Singh Brothers, but those guys were always going to play a part in the outcome one way or the other.

The Maharajah remains a despised character, but most fans and other wrestlers seem genuinely happy for Jinder (real name Yuvraj Singh "Raj" Dhesi) who gained a lot of support after a recent appearance on Chris Jericho's podcast.

What do you guys make of Mahal's win? Do you think he'll hold the title for long?
