SmackDown Live started with Vince McMahon revealing that Kevin Owens will replace Kofi Kingston at Fastlane but the main event made it clear that KO is very much a babyface (for now, at least). While there was understandably a fair bit of tension between the two partners, Owens picked up the win after hitting Daniel Bryan with a stunner.
In this emotional backstage interview, he talks about replacing Kingston, returning to WWE, and why he believes he can defeat Bryan for the WWE Championship.
Considering the fact Owens isn't a heel at this stage, his explanation makes perfect sense and why wouldn't he turn down the opportunity for a title match at the PPV? Regardless, the prevailing theory right now is that Owens was originally set to challenge for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania before #KofiMania started running wild.
