Kofi Kingston winding up in a WWE Championship match came out of nowhere and probably wouldn't have happened had Ali not suffered a concussion shortly before the
Elimination Chamber PPV. However, we've since heard reports that Kofi's unexpected rise led to Kevin Owens being pushed out of
WrestleMania but just how true was that?
In a new interview, Owens talks about Kingston earning his place at the Show of Shows and seemingly accepts that him ultimately earning a title shot on the Grandest Stage of Them All was always on the cards, regardless of what WWE may or may not have originally planned for him.
"I don't think Kofi stepped into anybody's way actually. That was clearly Kofi's match if you paid attention to what was going on in every arena and every SmackDown Live from the time he got into that gauntlet match at Elimination Chamber to WrestleMania. So, to me it was obvious from that point on it was Kofi's match. While it may have changed people's plans, I wouldn't say that he got into anybody's way. All he did was be himself and be Kofi Kingston and that is what got him there because the fans decided that they were going to get behind him more than anybody else."
Kingston and Owens will clash for the WWE Championship at this Sunday's Money in the Bank PPV and there's a lot of excitement surrounding The New Day member's first title defence, especially as things have become so personal between them both in recent weeks since Big O turned on the faction.
Who are you guys rooting for this weekend?
