Pro wrestling may be predetermined, but accidents happen and mistakes are made. Unfortunately, that was the case during last night's Men's Royal Rumble match when Kofi Kingston was knocked from the apron by Kevin Owens. The plan was clearly for the former WWE Champion to pull off one of his impressive stunts to remain in the match even after being thrown out, but it didn't quite work.
After leaping on to the barricade, both of Kingston's feet touched the ground. While WWE could have tried to play that down, it was blatantly caught on camera, meaning there was no way to keep The New Day member in the match. Kingston has made a habit of narrowly escaping elimination and would have likely jumped back into the ring off the barricade (which is surprisingly unoriginal for him).
Bryan Alvarez later took to Twitter to reveal, "Kofi's big spot was mistimed and he was legitimately eliminated when he wasn't supposed to be, there were spots planned later with Big E out there."
It's a shame things went this way, but can't be helped. It's kind of shocking this hasn't happened before, as some of Kofi's previous stunts have been considerably riskier and harder to pull off.
