Could we see Mike and Maria Kanellis back in New Japan Pro-Wrestling?

While the firing of the husband and wife duo was certainly shocking, the move may have been a blessing in disguise as it was well documented that Mike Bennett wasn’t particularly happy with his position in the company.

After re-signing a lengthy deal with WWE back in June 2019, the former 24/7 Champion tried to get out his contract later that year in October 2019; however, the company turned down his request. Bennett had been working down in NXT and 205 Live up until his release. Recently, Maria posted a picture and tagged New Japan Pro-Wrestling:

Mike and Maria are not strangers to the Japanese promotion as Bennett is a former IWGP Tag Team Champion with Matt Taven. Their stint with NJPW didn’t last long as Maria and Mike would eventually join TNA/Impact Wrestling; however, with the strong ties the duo has with Ring of Honor and New Japan, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they show up to either promotion.

At this time, both have 90-day non-compete clauses that won’t end until early July. There’s no word on whether New Japan or ROH will be up and running by this time. Both companies have been scrapping shows due to the coronavirus epidemic.
