Matt Riddle made his main roster debut in a match against Intercontinental Champion AJ Styles this past Friday in a winning effort which has received a positive response from fans. It's unclear what sort of affect those allegations of sexual assault with have on plans for him moving forward, but they do appear to be unfounded based on comments from Riddle through his lawyer.
In an interview which took place before SmackDown, ESPN's Ariel Helwani asked Riddle about that one-sided feud he has with WWE Hall of Famer Bill Golberg, and it sounds like he never actually wanted a match with him.
"I never wanted the Goldberg one, I don’t think…unless it was like a minute it might…I don’t think it’d be a great match," Riddle explained. "Brock’s really good that’s why I would love that match but Goldberg was just more..I’m just not a fan of his work. I just feel like you know he’s been pushed a lot and he’s been able to accomplish so much when I feel like there’s a lot of other people that are more deserving but that’s it."
"That’s also pro wrestling some people just have to look or had and Goldberg had it. I can’t argue that the guy’s worth millions of dollars. He’s a superstar, he’s just not my cup of tea," he concluded.
Of course, the way he kept calling out Goldberg helped put Riddle on the map even with wrestling fans who don't watch NXT. Now, the hope is that he will be given the opportunity to face Brock Lesnar somewhere down the line, while Goldberg remains in the bad books of many fans due to what happened with The Fiend not too long ago.
