As expected, it's looking like Matt Riddle will indeed be the next challenger for AJ Styles' Intercontinental Championship.
The King of Bros picked up a non-title win over Styles when he debuted on SmackDown a few weeks ago, and their feud is expected to pick up steam in the weeks leading up to the big PPV event. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the current plan is for Riddle to face King Corbin, with the winner earning the opportunity to go on to challenge The Phenomenal One for the gold at SummerSlam.
Riddle was recently accused of sexual assault, but that doesn't seem to have had much of an impact on his career, and the powers that be clearly believe his version of events. In fact, Vince McMahon is said to be very high (no pun intended) on the former NXT star, and has been impressed by his in-ring skill and promo work.
We'll have to wait and see if WWE makes this match official, but chances are we'll get a better idea of the IC title picture later tonight on SmackDown.
