Evan Bourne had the opportunity to make his WWE return in 2016.

Recently, the former WWE Tag Team Champion spoke to WrestleTalk’s Louis Dangoor and Sydal spoke about several things regarding his wrestling career including passing on the opportunity to make his return to the company in 2016.

Sydal was a prominent rising star during his stint with the promotion back in 2008. Known as Evan Bourne, the 37-year-old rose through the ranks thanks to his impressive performances in ECW. Bourne would then move over to RAW and actually won the WWE Tag Team titles with Kofi Kingston; however, his WWE career fizzled out due to his wellness policy suspensions.

Sydal was eventually released in 2014 and went back to Ring of Honor during this time. In 2016, WWE introduced the first-ever cruiserweight classic and the former WWE star revealed that he was actually in discussions about returning to the company for the tournament.

However, Sydal turned down the opportunity to make his return and chose New Japan Pro Wrestling instead:

“When the cruiserweight tournament was originally happening, I talked to them about that. But at the time I was also talking to New Japan, and I just chose New Japan over WWE. It was kind of an easy choice for me at the time”.

Sydal is coming off his AEW debut at All Out and the veteran is scheduled to compete in the ROH Pure Championship tournament. Stay tuned for more news on the upcoming competition here.
