Last week, it was revealed that Mike and Maria Kanellis have asked to be released from WWE due to how unhappy they were with the way they've been used in the company. While it appeared as if they would receive a push at first, that was abruptly stopped due to Mike reportedly having substance issues and even when he returned with an impressive new physique, the duo was nowhere to be seen.
Maria being off for an extended period of time while she was pregnant pushed them even further to the back of the line so it's no wonder they're looking elsewhere (possibly even All Elite Wrestling).
Now, Dave Meltzer has offered an update and it sounds like they asked for that release a number of weeks ago. "The story is not wrong. It was several weeks ago. From what I understand, they asked to give notice and were turned down so they are gonna work there. Maria, especially was really really good in TNA. There’s only so many people that are gonna get pushed."
In other words, they may want to be released but it's not going to happen. That's because WWE is unwilling to allow talent to make the leap to All Elite Wrestling and it's thought that these two are signed until at least 2020 so they're going to have to keep working for WWE whether they like it or not.
