MVP's Match Against Drew McIntyre On RAW Last Night May Have Been His In-Ring Farewell

During last night's episode of RAW, Drew McIntyre took out MVP in short order. Now, though, a new report claims that the bout was meant to serve as his in-ring farewell as he transitions into a producer role...

MVP made his surprise WWE return during the Royal Rumble PPV and later battled Rey Mysterio in a losing effort on RAW before getting into a physical confrontation with Drew McIntyre during a "VIP Lounge" talkshow segment last Monday. That culminated in a match with the #1 contender for the WWE title last night, but what comes next for him?

Well, we told you earlier today that MVP is now serving as a backstage producer in the company, but Dave Meltzer reports on Wrestling Observer Radio that his match with McIntyre was his last.

"They ripped off the tape on [MVP’s] nose which is, in fact, the idea of that’s the end of his wrestling career because the tape on the nose is a gimmick," he explains, referring to the moment McIntyre tore that from MVP's nose moments before hitting him with the Claymore Kick for the 1-2-3.

It's common for a retiring veteran to do a job on their way out the door, and while it's a shame we probably won't see more of MVP on TV, he can no doubt do an awful lot in his new backstage role.
