So graduations were in order this week. Joyful people. Happy tears. My pops chasing my least favorite teacher around with his cane because of a C-, balloons, cake, and just happy things that prevented my ability to write a reaction to Money In The Bank. But I have to admit, it did turn out to be solid pay-per-view. In fact, this whole week has been solid for the WWE in general.
I’m never afraid to admit when I’m wrong, and that’s the case about Nia Jax vs. Ronda Rousey heading into the big showdown. Look, the buildup was shit, but once Rousey and Jax got into that ring, they delivered a great match.
Admittedly, I wasn’t too thrilled when Alexa Bliss won the MITB briefcase. We just got off a long title reign with Bliss on top, thus I would have preferred her to stay out of the title picture a bit longer. But it’s clear that she’s destined to be royally mutilated by Rousey at Summerslam, so I’m not too bummed about her being champ. I’ll just spend more time staring at the wall during her match with Nia Jax at Extreme Rules.
Please stop having Ronda act. I love Terminator as much as the next guy, but the T-1000 felt more human than Rousey does. WWE needs to play to her strengths. Drop the scripted nice girl act and have her do UFC style interviews. And of course, have her beat the shit out of people. It’s not that hard.
In terms of Braun winning, I’m not so thrilled about that either. I know, his murderous rampages are fun and I do believe he should be the Universal champion, but I feel the briefcase should have went to someone like Finn Balor or even Samoa Joe. Braun is star. He could’ve won the Universal title without the briefcase; however, I am getting worried that creative is making him too strong.
Look up and down the RAW roster. Who’s a viable threat to Braun Strowman at the moment? When he does win the Universal championship, it’s going to be very hard for me to take anyone on the RAW roster seriously (except America’s favorite hero, Roman Reigns) when they’re challenging Strowman. WWE really needs to be careful here.
One of the reasons people don’t like Reigns is due to the fact that he’s been built up like superman. RAW needs strong heels. ASAP. And Strowman needs to show more vulnerability. Yeah I know, he’s a monster, that does monster like things, but he can’t be invincible.
Every hero needs a weakness (even monsters) because without one, then they’re perfect. And perfect is boring and not compelling. BTW, Monster in the bank sounds stupid and corny. I'm a dork and even I know that.
Ziggler winning the IC title doesn’t do much for me as this is his 1, 234, 678th mid-card title reign. Or it feels like it. What is he going to do different this time? Maybe backflips I guess. Whatever. Just get McIntyre away from him soon.
I want creative to stop insulting my intelligence and just name Roman Reigns the new #1 contender for Summerslam. I’m done bitching about Reigns, honestly. Vince has clearly made his choice, and now I have to make mine; either stop watching RAW due to Reigns or tolerate that a character who comes across an arrogant douchebag is the top face of the company.
It’s the latter for the moment, I guess. I can always count my fingers during his segments. I’ll still watch his matches though. They are usually fun. Well, unless its with Jinder Mahal (or booked like his match with Samoa Joe at Backlash).
This Bayley/Sasha Banks high school travesty needs to end. The acting is bad, the characters are completely unlikeable, and the worst thing about it is that IT JUST WON’T [frick]ING END!
Disappointed that Nakamura didn’t win the WWE championship. I heard the excuse as to why he didn’t and its not good enough to damage someone’s character long term. Nakamura is 0-6 in terms of WWE title opportunities. The guy goes through an important character shift at WrestleMania from happy, weird dance man to vicious, ball busting heel. But he still doesn’t win in the end.
He needs to beat Jeff Hardy. No excuses. If Nakamura doesn’t end up with the United States title then his character will be damaged forever.
Is there a reason why Asuka looked like a dumbass at MITB? Was James Ellsworth secretly chanting some voodoo spell under that mask to hypnotize her? There’s no excuse in Asuka losing the way that she did. She walked out looking worse than she went in.
SAnity’s debut was very weak. Imagine if they were the ones who attacked Bryan instead? Or hell, imagine if they just randomly attacked different superstars (men and women) on Smackdown week after week? There were much better options than the vanilla attack we saw on Smackdown this week.
Happy Rusev Day! Terrific booking in the Smackdown Gauntlet match with a surprising outcome. Rusev deserves to be in the main event and I wouldn’t be pissed if he won the title at Extreme Rules. I’m in the minority who believes that the Rusev Day gimmick is just not main event quality however.
I liked the segment several weeks ago when Lana teased breaking up the pair of Aiden English and Rusev. I know, you hate me. Feel free to punch your computer, pretending it’s my face.
All in all, WWE had a solid week in terms of the main roster stuff. Let’s hope they keep the momentum up.
