So I needed a catchy title. It was either Reservoir Wrestlers or Three Billboards in Stamford, Connecticut. I think I made the right choice. Put your notebook away if you were expecting helpful tips on drug usage.
Welcome. This article is set to focus on various topics of weekly events in wrestling. RAW, SMACKDOWN LIVE, NXT, 205 Live, RING OF HONOR, NEW JAPAN PRO-WRESTLING, IMPACT WRESTLING, or just any wrestling topic that I would like to cover briefly. Let’s not waste any more time:
· Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins was a really good match. Rollins is on a roll right now and I know I said Strowman should be “the guy” at the moment, but I’ve changed my stance and would strap a rocket to Rollins.
· So this Roman “Aren’t I a heel already” statement is an interesting topic. Technically, yes. Not because of Roman’s fan reaction, but it’s the fact that he still comes across a self-entitled, arrogant, and now whiny douche. However, WWE continues to push Roman as a sympathetic babyface, who’s getting screwed by corporate (which no one buys). Roman would make such a great Anti-Hero (since Vince refuses to turn him heel) in the vein of Frank Castle (The Punisher). Of course, there would have to be something likeable about Roman’s character still; something creative seems to have a hard time doing with him.
· We still don’t know what Lashley’s goal is in the WWE. Is it to spread love and positivity to victims of abuse from family members? Makes sense.
· I wanna punch Finn Balor in the face. Is it just me? Note to Mr. Balor, smiling like a jackass 24/7 doesn’t make up for your drab character. And this is coming from a fan of Balor’s work.
· Look, I’m a writer, so I get it. You have a few drinks. Next thing you know, you’re confiding life goals to Chuckie. And then you get an idea and write. I say this because I like to think no one sober could have possibly thought that the Ronda Rousey, Nia Jax, and Charlotte segment was scripted well. I forgive you Vince and company. I forgive you.
· Continuing on with Jax/Rousey, the match is simply a bad idea. Nia Jax is not in the class of Asuka, Becky Lynch, Mickie James or Charlotte, so why risk making Rousey look bad? It won’t be Sharmell/ Jenna Morasca bad, but this match on paper seems like it will do her no favors.
· WWE can do an out for this match. Having Mickie viciously attack and “injure” Rousey a couple of weeks before MITB. Then give James the title at the event and build up to Mickie/Rousey at Summerslam. Therefore, it protects Ronda Rousey and she’s more than likely to have a great match against the veteran Mickie. This storyline can work with Natalya as well since they have the jealously angle going on with her and Rousey.
·I would be fine if WWE dropped the Woken gimmick next week. Matt is doing his best, but Vince and company clearly don’t understand what made Broken Matt Hardy special in TNA. So much fun can be had with the Wyatt/ Woken Matt situation, but now I just don’t care anymore.
· So let me get this straight, AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura are having a match at Money In The Bank due to the
stupidity of creative double count out at Backlash. So to figure out the stipulation of this heated feud after two matches that ended with a non-finish, Nakamura and Styles have a regular wrestling match to determine one. Logic be damned I guess. These two had their best match to date on Smackdown Live, but the booking has killed this feud.
· All I got from the Big Cass segment was, “Don’t f**k with us you stupid generic big guy” from creative. How can anyone possibly take Big Cass seriously after the beatdown Daniel Bryan gave him?
· Would have preferred Andrade to be thrust into a big-time feud with a wrestler out of the gate instead of going the squash match route that did little to showcase what he can really do. But I got to see Zelina Vega, so I’m a happy man. However, Andrade vs. Daniel Bryan at MITB would make me even happier.
·I’m really excited for Okada/Kenny Omega IV and the Dominion event in general. I don’t talk about New Japan Pro-Wrestling much, but it’s currently favorite my promotion at the moment. While I think they have way too many titles, their storylines, the characters, and the different styles in each match are what I love about it. They’re not perfect of course. NXT is the closest thing that comes to NJPW at the moment (In my opinion).
· It’s a shame we aren’t getting Will Osperay vs. Rey Mysterio at Dominion as well. Dragon Lee or Chris Sabin are the opponents that intrigue me the most.
· A Young Bucks/ Briscoe Brothers feud? Sign me up!
· God damn it, the Tommaso Ciampa/Johnny Gargano feud is simply fantastic! I say give Tommaso Ciampa the NXT title. The guy is such a gem as a heel.
· Since I don’t have all the time in the world to kiss NXT’s ass, it’s just a blast to watch each week. Though, I’m not big on Kona Reeves. He looks like a cross between John Morrison and a psycho killer named Bob.
·So I have an on and off relationship with Impact Wrestling at the moment, but I do keep tabs on the promotion. Watched on Thursday and apparently Rosemary is dead?
· Look, I’m all for death, and murder, and cheap fire effects. All for it. But this feels more Lucha Underground (which I like) than Impact Wrestling. I will admit, I am intrigued. I do like the character of Su Yung and continue to be a big fan of Rosemary.
· What happened to Diamante from LAX? When you’re a gang banging chick with crazy talent then you’ve captured my heart for life.
· It’s such a shame Austin Aries was never more in the WWE. The guy is indeed main event level talent and they definitely missed the boat with him, though I do understand the reasoning behind his release.
·Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards was a good match. Despite the cringeworthy hospital segment, these two do have the best feud on Impact. However, If Edwards really wanted to beat the shit out of Callihan then why didn’t he just continue to hurt him instead of going for the pin?
· Really looking forward to the United Kingdom tournament next month. If you haven’t seen the last tournament, go check it out now. Wonderfully booked and Pete Dunne is a freaking star. If you don’t have the time then watch Taylor Bate vs. Pete Dunne at NXT Takeover: Chicago. If that match doesn’t win you over on the UK talent then I don’t know what will.
