My Reaction To WWE, Drugs & Other Things In Professional Wrestling

This past week Sami Zayn interviewed Bobby Lashley's "three sisters" and Chris Jericho cut a promo involving a wonderful turtle among other things in wrestling. Read my reactions from this past week.

Dear god,

I thought that after the, “This is your life” debacle last year that we had an agreement. Look, I get it. You’ve got god things to do like creating babies or figuring out whether Kanye West is secretly the devil in human form, but we had a deal. You promised to never give me a segment like that again. And you did, and you’ve let me down. Thanks for shattering the heart of a wrestling fan. I always liked the devil more anyways.

Welcome. This article is set to focus on various topics of weekly events in wrestling. RAW, SMACKDOWN LIVE, NXT, 205 Live, RING OF HONOR, NEW JAPAN PRO-WRESTLING, IMPACT WRESTLING, or just any wrestling topic that I would like to cover briefly. Let’s not waste any more time:

·The Three sisters segment was shit. I was open minded to this segment because maybe, just maybe WWE would surprise me and do something compelling (And this is possible), but it was your classic “Only Vince will like this” segment. How was this segment supposed to give Sami Zayn heat when he’s clearly going for comedy? How does this help Bobby Lashley in the long run?

·On the positive side, Finn Balor vs. Braun Strowman was a fun match. I’m disappointed that the Seth Rollins/Balor feud didn’t go further. Balor showed teases of a heel turn (or just a character really) and I was really enjoying the wrinkles to the story.

·I just need Stephanie McMahon to go away for a decade. I’ll happily take 9 years and 5 months. I’m getting sick and tired of everyone leaving their balls at the door (or vagina? Do women leave their vaginas at the door?) when it comes to her character. Her constant burial of everyone on the roster is channel changing and counterproductive.

·I miss Ronda Rousey. This cyborg that’s taken over her body just isn’t doing it for me. I understand that if Rousey was her true, natural self then she would be hated by many; But at least Rousey showed charisma and confidence (before the two losses) during her time in UFC. This fake, clearly scripted nice girl act just isn’t working for me.

·I have to give credit where credit is due, Smackdown Live has really stepped up since the draft. It’s not perfect of course, but the two hours fly by with ease thanks for the entertaining matches and solid storytelling.

·I’m already counting my fingers in excitement till Samoa Joe vs. Daniel Bryan on Smackdown.

·Despite my gripes last week, Nakamura and Styles had a fun little segment. Granted all I really understood was pillow fight, crazy finger counting, and last man standing, but I enjoyed it.

·What happened to SAnity? Was there an emergency admission to the psych ward?

·I’m not against The New Day breaking up. The act is stale and it just feels like they’re being silly for the sake of being silly now. What’s the purpose of the pancake gimmick? I honestly have no clue. I don’t feel anyone needs to turn heel (just tweaks to each man’s gimmick), but the New Day are at their best when they’re serious and have a goal to focus on.

·It’s nice to see Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson do something. It’s a shame that these talented guys aren’t more than just AJ or Finn Balor’s lackeys. They should be the dominant bad asses they were in New Japan. I don’t expect them to win at MITB, but I hope this is the start to repairing their image.

·I followed Cedric Alexander from his days in Ring of Honor and he is talented, but I wouldn’t be upset if he lost the cruiserweight title on Tuesday. His character is bland in the WWE, but I blame Vince McMahon’s flawed vision of 205 Live. Having him chase and struggle his way back to the top of 205 Live would surely get the fans on his side.

·Drew Gulak is the MVP of 205 Live since Triple H took over. His improved in ring style and gimmick has made him into a star.

·If you love NXT then you’ll dig 205 Live for sure. The show is leaps and bounds better than what it used to be.

·Ricochet and Velveteen Dream are having a fun feud thus far. I look forward to seeing what these two can do on a bigger stage with a longer time.

·Man on woman violence is an interesting topic in the world of wrestling. When I first watched Lucha Underground, it was a bit weird to see the women so equal to the men. However, I love the way LU portrays its characters and it’s one of the many things I enjoy about that promotion now. I don’t see this tactic working in WWE. Brock Lesnar having a hard time defeating Nia Jax or Braun Strowman getting bested by Alexa Bliss just aren’t believable scenarios to me.

·I know how badass Candice LaRae was on the independent scene, so it's weird to see her play such a weak character on NXT. Would I book Candice LaRae vs. Tommaso Ciampa one on one in the future? No, only because LaRae has not been portrayed as an equal match to Ciampa, so it would actually hurt him in the eyes of many if the match was on equal ground.

·So, Matt Sydal is some drugged out hippy, dippy, flippy, heel dude? I know I’m on and off with Impact Wrestling, but I still don’t understand what his gimmick is.

·Did Eddie Edwards take the acting in pornography 101 class? No offense, but acting crazy is not his strong suit.

·Allie is possessed, Rosemary is “dead”, female zombies roam Impact Wrestling and I’m perfectly happy with this. Now let’s get Josh Matthews lips sewn together for the rest of his announcing life.

·I’m not usually a fan of profanity laced promos as it come across as lazy writing, but I enjoyed the hell out of Chris Jericho’s promo to Tetsuya Naito. We don’t get much promos like this in wrestling anymore (or at least from the promotions I watch), so it was refreshing and its clear Jericho was having a good time. I was indeed worried about that turtle though. I'm totally fine with murder, beatings, and GTA style treatment of hookers, but to hurt an innocent turtle who’s doing nothing but turtling, unacceptable.
