Big things happening on WWE NXT tonight as a title changed hands, two title contenders were established, another champion has two potential opponents waiting in the wings and more. Let's break them all down!
Zaria defeated Tatum Paxley to win the NXT Women's North American Championship on tonight's show in the main event. After months of Zaria trying to win any championship she could, only to get so frustrated with it that she even broke off her partnership with Sol Ruca and ended both their tag team and friendship, she's now finally able to call herself champion. Paxley, meanwhile, ends a 94 day reign that came about when she had defeated Izzi Dame—her former friend and partner within The Culling in her own right—who had also cost Paxley her NXT Women's Championship months ago.
That NXT Women's Championship is now on Lola Vice, who will be facing Kendal Grey at the upcoming WWE NXT Great American Bash premium live event. Grey defeated Kelani Jordan on tonight's episode to earn that title opportunity in a No. 1 contender's bout, which she won by pinfall.
On the NXT Men's Championship front, Tony D'Angelo's opponent for Great American Bash will be Naraku, who defeated Mason Rook in the other No. 1 contender's match of the night. Rook's loss came about when Kam Hendrix interfered and distracted him, which will surely see some follow-up on next week's show, which is also set to feature a face-to-face promo segment between Naraku and D'Angelo.
Also on next week's episode of NXT, Tavion Heights will face Jackson Drake to determine who gets to challenge Myles Borne for the NXT Men's North American Championship.
Next week's episode will also include Jaida Parker against Nattie, after Parker had attacked Nattie during a Hart Dungeon training session.
Lastly in the world of NXT titles, there will be two WWE Speed tournament matches for the women's division with Izzi Dame against Thea Hail and Arianna Grace against Layla Diggs to eventually lead to the next title match against Wren Sinclair, who has yet to be medically cleared to compete. Dame's involvement in the tournament was at first met with skepticism, as she would like to go for more important titles like getting the NXT Women's North American Championship back, but Shawn Spears set this up for her as an easy victory, as Hail was the woman Dame defeated to win that title in the first place.
Whether that proves to be truth or not, we'll find out next week, so stay tuned to The Ring Report for future coverage of next Tuesday's episode of WWE NXT!
