Last night's episode of RAW may not have had Vince McMahon at its helm, but it was still a rather underwhelming effort. Of course, not helping matters was the fact many members of the roster were absent due to travel issues!
One of the show's strangest moments came when Becky Lynch teamed up with Trish Stratus to defend the Women's Tag Team Championships against Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan. Lita had been attacked backstage, prompting Stratus to take her place in the title bout.
What followed was a relatively sloppy match that saw Stratus cost her and Lynch the titles when she was rolled up by Morgan for the 1-2-3.
Moments later, Stratus turned heel when she attacked "The Man" and laid her out with the Chick Kick. We've been hearing rumblings about a feud between these two for months now, with original plans calling for them to square off at SummerSlam.
That event doesn't take place until August 5, but according to Dave Meltzer, WWE still plans to have the match take place during the biggest PPV of the summer.
"They’re going to do a match at SummerSlam, which is interesting that they shot the angle...so early, although I expected the angle actually at WrestleMania," he explained. "Yeah, that’s been the whole plan since she came back. Stratus came back to set up Stratus and Lynch for a feud."
We're definitely intrigued by the match, but this is a long build and Stratus clearly has a lot of ring rust to work off. On the plus side, this will give her the time to do so.
Stay tuned for updates.
