Boo them all you want, but The New Day proved once again that they do indeed rock, not suck, as they are once again the top tag team on Monday Night Raw after winning the WWE World Tag Team Championship titles from The War Raiders at WrestleMania 41 on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods (and Big E, when he was still part of the group) are among the most decorated tag teams in World Wrestling Entertainment history, so they're no strangers to holding this gold, even if it is the first time they're winning these particular specific championship belts in this new incarnation.
How We Got Here:
There isn't truly all that much that set this up. In December, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods turned on Big E and became heels. For a few weeks, WWE kept some spotlight on them with the entire roster hating them for that, only to cool them off for a few months by doing nothing with them. Eventually, The War Raiders—who had won the titles from The Judgment Day's Finn Balor and JD McDonagh on the December 16, 2024 episode of Monday Night Raw—had wrestled enough matches against American Made and just sort of got in the crosshairs of The New Day, who were ready to reclaim their spot as the best tag team on the roster.
The two teams clashed on April 4th on Raw, but the match ended in a disqualification that The New Day had set up so they would technically get a win and be able to get another chance at the titles. Raw General Manager Adam Pearce went ahead and made the match official for WrestleMania, and that's it.
Match Details:
Predominantly, War Raiders utilized their power while The New Day focused on their speed and agility, as well as a few dastardly tricks here and there to give themselves an edge.
So much so to the point that the finish came about with Kingston holding Ivar's leg down outside of the referee's eyesight, allowing Woods to get the pinfall after a Daylight.
Knowing it was highway robbery, Kingston and Woods booked it out of the ringside area, running straight to the back with the belts before Erik and Ivar could get their hands on them again.
Personal Reactions & What Happens Next?:
The New Day have more than proven themselves capable of working with essentially everyone on the roster. They're legitimately one of the greatest tag teams not just of this era, but in the entire history of professional wrestling.
There aren't many teams on the current Raw roster worth having an elongated feud with (or, in some cases, having any matches with again whatsoever), but the 2025 WWE Draft is most likely right around the corner, as it traditionally takes place after WrestleMania, around Backlash. That should freshen things up a bit and allow some SmackDown or even NXT teams to challenge Kingston and Woods soon enough. In the meantime, Erik and Ivar will probably get a rematch on Raw to stretch this storyline out a little longer. Hopefully, it will be a Viking Rules Match or some other kind of gimmick.
