WrestleMania's "Boneyard Match" was considered a highlight of this year's unorthadox Show of Shows, and many expected AJ Styles to return with a completely different persona after being buried alive by The Undertaker.
Well, minus the recently released Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Styles made his WWE return on RAW last night and was, well, exactly the same. He's now earned a spot at this Sunday's Money in the Bank ladder match, and is a hot favourite to win that so he can start feuding with WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.
However, it sounds like Styles' return was originally going to be quite a bit different.
According to Dave Meltzer during an appearance on Sunday Night's Main Event podcast, Styles was originally scheduled to be off television for a much longer period of time after WrestleMania, but it's likely that low RAW viewership forced WWE's hand as they attempt to increase interest in this Sunday's PPV.
It's definitely good to have Styles back on Monday nights, but it also feels like WWE has undone what we saw at the Show of Shows by having him come back so soon. Still, if he picks up a big win this Sunday, it might just be worth it. We'll keep you guys updated!
