It's no secret that John Cena is close friends with Vince McMahon, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that he isn't willing to hear a bad word said against his former boss.

The Leader of the Cenation recently spoke with AP News and was asked about McMahon's retirement amid various sexual misconduct allegations. Since then, the former WWE Chairman has returned to the company in order to oversee a possible sale of WWE and Cena chose his words carefully when he was asked about his longtime home now being up for grabs.

"That’s way above my pay grade. I just don’t know what’s going on with that. I love Vince McMahon," Cena said. "He’s everything you could want in a great friend, business partner, father, mentor. I love the man. But his business dealings are his business and what he shares with me, that’s between us."

"But I don’t know what’s going on with the corporate structure in the WWE or the creative direction of the WWE."

Pushed to elaborate on his feelings for McMahon, Cena was asked if he finds it difficult to reconcile his feelings towards the now extremely controversial figure.

"No," he stated. "I mean, everyone has the right to have their perspective. I have the right to have mine. When you love somebody, you take them as imperfectly perfect as they are. We all make mistakes, we all have poor decisions. Lord knows I’ve made my collection of poor choices. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to love somebody."

"There’s no way I can go on record and say I don’t love Vince McMahon."

While we certainly can't fault Cena's loyalty (he does preach that along with hustle and respect), it's a little surprising to see him go to bat for McMahon given some of what we've heard. Hollywood doesn't really care about pro wrestling enough for Cena to face any sort of backlash and, ultimately, he's entitled to his opinion. McMahon, meanwhile, hasn't been found guilty of any crimes!

What are your thoughts on Cena's perspective?
