WWE has been releasing a lot of top names this year, but one of the biggest shocks was the decision to fire The IIconics. Peyton Royce and Billie Kay were never really properly utilised on the main roster, and despite a Women's Tag Team Championship win, the company really dropped the ball on the duo.
That might explain why Royce, real name Cassie Lee, actually considered asking for her release on multiple occasions. However, RAW Superstar Rhea Ripley managed to talk her out of it!
"I really struggled seeing the bigger picture and putting things in perspective. I was really unhappy at work. A few times, I was like, ‘I don’t think I can do this anymore. I’m going to ask for my release,’" she admitted. "There were times I would be in the locker room, and some sort of creative would change, and I was so upset. Rhea had to talk me off the edge because I was about to walk into Talent Relations and say, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m so unhappy.’"
"She talked me off the ledge. I was unhappy, so the release I think was a blessing in disguise. I was unhappy, and I was so close to asking for my release, but I never pulled that trigger."
These comments arguably sum up what an unhappy working environment WWE has become for many Superstars in recent years. Unfortunately, Visa issues mean Lee is unable to get back into the ring for the foreseeable future, though we're certainly hoping that changes soon given what a talent she is.
