John Cena is expected to make his WWE return imminently, and rumour has it he'll challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam

While it had initially been reported Cena might appear during this Friday night's episode of SmackDown (the first time the show will air in front of fans since last year), Fightful Select is now reporting that the working plan is for the leader of the Cenation to return on the July 23 episode.

That's the post-Money in the Bank edition of the show, and makes sense as WWE looks to build to SummerSlam. Reliable sources have reported that Cena vs. Reigns is a lock, while we're also expecting to see Edge square off with Seth Rollins.

The last time Cena wrestled was in the cinematic Firefly Funhouse match with Bray Wyatt. Many believed that could be a retirement, but it will be good seeing him back in the squared circle. Cena does have quite a few movie commitments on the horizon, so chances are this will be a one-off match for the time being.

In related news, it sounds like WWE has plenty of big surprises on the way...
