Drew McIntyre is set to defend the WWE Championship against Bobby Lashley at Backlash on June 14th, but it appears as if that will just be the opening chapter of their rivalry. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason Lashley has been given MVP as a manager/mouthpiece is because RAW Executive Director Paul Heyman wanted to give him a mouthpiece...for a potential title run.
This is why WWE has started moving away from the Lashley/Lana storyline, and pushing the former United States Champion as a serious wrestler who is a legitimate threat to the current WWE Champion.
The question is, when will Lashley win the title? Well, it's thought that this feud is set to last through the summer before possibly culminating in a stipulation match of some sort at SummerSlam in August. If that's the case, it seems likely he'll win the title before that, and McIntyre will then attempt to win it back.
It's hard to say for sure, but with reports swirling that Brock Lesnar will be back in time for SummerSlam, perhaps we'll finally see Lashley get the match he's wanted for so long. As always, we'll keep you updated, but big things are clearly coming down the line for Lashley in WWE.
