A somewhat unexpected start to the Fastlane PPV, as Randy Orton defeated Bobby Roode to win the United States Championship for the very first time. The back-and-forth match was a decent, if somewhat uninspired affair, and ended when Orton managed to hit his patented "RKO outta nowhere."

The Viper is a multi-time WWE Champ, but the US title is the one strap that's eluded him over the course of his storied career.

After the match, Jinder Mahal came out to the ring and attacked Randy, but was hit by the Glorious DDT by Roode, who then gave Orton one for good measure.

This seems to be setting up a triple-threat match for WrestleMania.
