WWE's decision to label this the "Greatest Wrestling Match Ever" always seemed like a mistake, and would have come back to bite them in a big way if Edge and Randy Ortin didn't deliver. Fortunately, they did... and then some.
It wasn't the greatest match of all time (at least, not in our opinion), but it was an excellent bout which might well turn out to be among the best of the year. The Viper and The Rated-R Superstar pulled out all the stops to achieve victory, even utilizing other Superstar's finishes such as The Rock Bottom and The Pedigree. They also used their own a little too much, and if we have one major complaint it's that we saw too many kickouts after RKOs and Spears.
In the end, Edge locked on his Anti-Venom submission hold and Orton appeared to hit a low blow to escape. The ref didn't notice, however, and he finished his long-time rival off with a Punt Kick to the head. Afterwards, The Legend Killer whispered in Edge's ear, telling him to go home to his wife and kids and tell them Uncle Randy said hi.
Great stuff, somewhat marred by reports that Edge suffered a torn tricep at some point during the match. WWE still haven't made that official, though, so keep an eye out for updates.
What did you guys think of the "Greatest Match Ever" and Backlash as a whole?
