Ahead of Sunday's SummerSlam PPV, Randy Orton talked about having thirteen WWE Championship reigns to his name, and went on to pitch the possibility of eventually tying both John Cena and Ric Flair's record (of sixteen title wins). From there, The Viper has quite the WrestleMania match in mind involving himself, the leader of the Cenation, and the Nature Boy.
"How cool would it be, for me, to wrestle Triple H, to win the title a few more times," Orton started. "Then have a match with John Cena to break the tie for 16 championships. I don’t know if Ric would be the referee, I think he would be a special ringside commentator or in one of our corners depending on who’s the good guy or bad guy."
"Could you imagine Cena as the heel, Flair in his corner, me as the babyface, both of us at 16 World Titles and main eventing WrestleMania in 3-5 years to see who breaks that tie?" Orton continued. "To me, that would be the ultimate way to eventually ride off into the sunset."
It's a nice idea in theory, but another Orton vs. Cena match isn't something anyone is really crying out for (even when the stakes are that high). WWE headlining a future WrestleMania with a match like this speaks to key problems within the company of relying too heavily on older wrestlers rather than building new stars for the future, hence why ratings are tanking.
