Confirming recent rumors, Randy Orton turned on his friend and mentor Ric Flair in the final segment of Raw and delivered a Punt Kick to the WWE Hall of Famer.
The Viper had just won his match with Kevin Owens after countering a Stunner attempt with an RKO, when he asked Flair to stick around through the break to "celebrate." Orton told The Nature Boy that he no longer loves and respects him because he's only driven by ego, and is a whore for the spotlight. He said the Ric Flair he knew back in the day would never have needed to have a pacemaker put in, and wouldn't have almost died in a coma.
Flair then took the mic and cut a very emotional promo, telling Randy that he was right, but that he just wants to be there for him when he becomes a 14-time champion and eventually surpasses even his legendary record.
Orton appeared to have a change of heart and hugged Ric, but then hit a low blow when his back was turned. The Legend Killer then lined up his Punt Kick, and although the lights flickered out so that Flair would actually have to take the move, he struck. Drew McIntyre then chased his SummerSlam opponent out of the ring (where were you a few second earlier champ?).
This was really great stuff, and it's fair to say McIntyre vs. Orton for the WWE Championship in two weeks time just became a must-see match.
