Halloween is very nearly here, but when it comes to the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships, it's beginning to feel like they're plagued by a year-round curse.
Multiple title reigns have been ruined by injuries, while no one who holds them ever seems to truly benefit. That latter point can be blamed on bad creative, of course, but there are those who feel these belts now need to go the way of the 24/7 Championship.
Raquel Rodriguez experienced the curse first-hand after she and Liv Morgan were forced to vacate the titles a little over a month after winning them when the latter was injured. Now, she's shared her take on WWE's unluckiest championship gold in an interview with The Dallas Morning News.
"I do think there is a little bit of a curse," she admitted. "Liv [Morgan] and I, from the very beginning when we started tagging together, we told each other that this was something we wanted to build up. We wanted to make the women's tag team titles something as important. They should be on the same level, on the same pedestal as the World Women's Championship, as any championship really on the WWE roster, even the men's ones."
"But because of this curse, it's just really been affecting team after team after team. So I'm kind of relieved that right now I'm not in that picture at the moment, even though I miss my buddy Liv," Rodriguez added. "But at the same time, I feel for Chelsea [Green], I feel for Piper [Niven] and I just hope that they're able to be the champions that I know they want to be representing those titles."
Unfortunately, bad booking appears to have struck again because the titles haven't actually been defended on television since the July episode of RAW when Green and Sonya Deville won them.
Of course, it wasn't long after that when Deville suffered an ACL injury, leading to Niven becoming Green's new partner.
As for Rodriguez, she's going to be challenging Women's World Champion Rhea Ripley at Crown Jewel in a Fatal 5-Way match which will also feature Nia Jax, Shayna Baszler, and Zoey Stark. Here's Crown Jewel's current confirmed match card:
