RAW Superstar Roman Reigns Refers To The WWE Fans That Boo Him As "Closet Lovers"
Roman Reigns has been doing the press rounds to promote his Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam this Sunday, and the inevitable crowd reaction conversation popped up yet again...
Shortly after calling his detractors a "small group of vocal men who decide to hate on me," Roman Reigns is back with another doozy.
During an interview with Yahoo! Sports to promote his Universal Title match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam this weekend, Reigns once again addressed the negative crowd reaction he tends to receive, and suggested that those fans love him really. Well, love to hate him, at least.
“I think they’re like closet lovers to be honest. You can say whatever you want, but it’s how you say it that matters. The way they deliver it, they’re more connected to me than their so called ‘favorites.’ For me to be able to pull on whatever string I pull on, it just goes to show there’s a deep rooting there.
[The crowd reaction] doesn’t really matter to me, as long as they’re really loud, that’s all I really care about. There could be certain moments where they try to hijack shows and all of that, but by the end of the match, they’re standing up so I’ve been blessed. I really do think that if they love to hate you, they still love you.”
From a certain perspective, Reigns has a point: it is better to get some kind of reaction than none at all, but - and this is the most important point - he is not getting the reaction WWE wants him to get, and that's plain for anyone to see.
Will things change at SummerSlam? Highly unlikely, but we'll certainly be watching just in case.
