Despite the fact many fans already view the newly revealed WWE World Heavyweight Championship as a consolation prize for those unable to defeat Roman Reigns, RAW kicked off last night with Cody Rhodes making it clear he wants to win the title.
With that, the tournament began with Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Seth "Freakin" Rollins vs. Damian Priest. While the King of Strong Style came close to making Priest tap out to a knee bar, a Frog Splash and Pedigree from Rollins on Nakamura meant he earned a place in the semi-finals later that evening.
In the second triple threat match, it was Rhodes vs. Finn Balor vs. The Miz.
While the American Nightmare was the firm fan-favourite to advance, Brock Lesnar - who was busted open and defeated at Backlash - made his return to pull Rhodes out of the win and cost him the match.
After hitting the F5 on the floor, he then put Rhodes through the table and demanded a match at Night of Champions which was later made official. Back in the ring, Balor capitalised on the distraction to beat The Miz with the Coup de Grace.
In the main event, it was Rollins vs. Balor, with the winner advancing to face whoever wins SmackDown's tournament this Friday. It was an awesome match that ended with a Stomp and the 1-2-3 for Rollins. Now, Rollins will challenge for the title at the PLE in Saudi Arabia and seems a likely winner given how over he currently is with fans.
