Earlier today, WWE officially announced that Hall of Famer Ric Flair has been released from his contract. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it was WWE Chairman Vince McMahon who made the decision...shortly after the Nature Boy text the CEO about the way his daughter, Charlotte, was being booked on television each week.
"He had sent a message, I think it was a text message, but he had sent a message to Vince McMahon, and it was basically complaining about Ashley’s...Charlotte’s...booking, her situation, and now he’s gone. I’ve seen it said it was his decision to leave, and I just know from people who I know who are closer to this situation than I am that say that it was Vince’s decision."
It sounds like Flair rubbed Vince up the wrong way with his criticisms, and that seemingly played into the decision to release him. It's a little petty, but that's McMahon for you, and it's no secret that Flair has been unhappy with the way he's been used for a while now (WWE doesn't treat its Legends well).
In a statement on Twitter, Flair even alluded to possible creative differences when he said, "We Have A Different Vision For My Future." Despite that, it seems there are no hard feelings.
