Earlier this year, WWE was clearly building to a Charlotte Flair vs. Lacey Evans match at WrestleMania with Ric Flair in the latter's corner. In one of RAW's weirdest storylines, the WWE Hall of Famer turned on his daughter and appeared to embark on a romantic relationship with Evans. However, the whole thing was scrapped when she fell pregnant in real life.
It's no secret that Charlotte wasn't a fan of the storyline, but Ric confirmed that in a recent interview (see below) while also sharing his own thoughts on the angle.
"In this instance, I didn't [have a problem with it]," he said. "The one thing I've learned is you're not gonna win a war when someone got their mind made up and [Charlotte] most definitely didn't like it. But you know, the one thing I can say about me is, I always said yes. Because I didn't wanna be that guy that was always going, 'Oh god, that isn't perfect for me.'"
"I don't know if you've followed my career, but I've been buried in the desert by Russo," Flair continued, reflecting on some of his weirder experiences. "I've had my head shaved. I mean, if you look at the other top guys that are in the industry, whether it's Shawn or Hunter or Undertaker or Bret Hart, whatever, nobody has gone through all this. I've done everything."
That's true, and this storyline was a fun way of getting Flair in a major angle on RAW. The payoff at WrestleMania could have been great and helped put Evans on the map in a big way, but Charlotte was never on board with it and no doubt pleased that it didn't get a chance to pan out.
As for Ric, it's now been a while since we've seen him on the Monday night show, but Randy Orton recently revealed that the legendary Superstar often hangs out with talent backstage. Woo!
