Roman Reigns was part of this week's episode of
WWE's The Bump, and The Big Dog opened up about his battle with leukaemia. He started by explaining that while he may have beaten cancer, he now never takes each day for granted.
"Every day, I feel blessed," Reigns said. "This morning, I felt blessed just to be able to wake up - to get up comfortably to brush my teeth and hug my daughter. It's been an unbelievable year. Last year was frightening, I'm not going to lie. Just the support and camaraderie of everyone surrounding me, giving me that focus to just put my mind towards healing and focusing on my family. To be able to be allowed that was truly a godsend."
When the former Universal Champion broke it to the WWE Universe that he was going to have to take a step back in order to fight the disease, he broke kayfabe and spoke to them as Joe instead of "Roman." That's not something we ever really see on RAW, and it wasn't easy for Reigns to do so.
"There have been so many instances and scenarios where they get to see Roman and Joe," The Big Dog continued. "I felt like being on television the past six or seven years straight, you become invested in people - you build a relationship and connection with people. I just didn't want to lie. I didn't want people to make up stories of what I was doing or where I was going. I just wanted to be truthful and let the world know what was going on with me."
"If there was anyone who could take a shred of hope and take my story and use it as strength, or experience, then I thought that would be the best use of what was going on. I just wanted to utilize the platform I had with my fanbase and help anyone who was going through that," he concluded.
Now, Reigns is back in WWE and seemingly ready to step back into the main event picture as rumours continue to swirl about plans for him at WrestleMania. The way he managed to overcome cancer was inspirational, and the moment he broke character on RAW was definitely memorable.
