We fully expected Roman Reigns to retain the Universal Championship against Braun Strowman, of course, but could anyone have predicted the finish of the match?
The Tribal Chief and The Monster Among Men clashed in the main event of last night's season premiere of SmackDown, and while Strowman did assert his physical dominance early on, Reigns soon turned things around and laid a vicious beating on his larger opponent.
When a spear didn't finish the job, Roman locked on a Guillotine Choke, and won by submission when Braun... tapped out?
The camera didn't pick it up, but Michael Cole made it very clear that Strowman had submitted - for the first time, as far as we can recall. Jey Uso made his way to the ring after the match, and The Big Dog proceeded to wear Braun out with a steel chair to show his cousin what awaited him in their Hell in a Cell match. Jey took Roman down with a superkick and laid in a few chair shots of his own, but was ultimately left laying after a Superman Punch.
Reigns walked way, telling Uso that was his last chance, and he's now turned his back on him.
A strong end to what turned out to be a pretty good show overall. Were you guys surprised to see Reigns tap Strowman out herte? Let us know in the comments.
