Roman Reigns Will Defend The Universal Title At The ROYAL RUMBLE Against... Adam Pearce?

Last night on SmackDown, a gauntlet match took place to determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns' Universal Championship, and Adam Pearce ended up winning after some interference from The Tribal Chief.

Adam Pearce is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble PPV event at the end of the month.

The match came about when Shinsuke Nakamura (who now appears to be face again) defeated Rey Mysterio, Baron Corbin and Daniel Bryan in a gauntlet match last night on SmackDown to determine the No. 1 contender. Pearce was the final competitor, but Reigns and Jey Uso ambushed Nakamura before the bout could get underway.

After putting the King of Strong Style down with a barrage of moves, Uso superkicked Pearce and dragged him on top of his opponent while Reigns ordered the ref to count to 3.

Pearce is actually a wrestler, and competed on the independent scene for many years. He hasn't had a match since 2014, but it looks like we're going to see him back in the ring very soon... unless, of course, this is all a precursor to someone else stepping in to take his place.

We'd love to see Nakamura get that title shot, but something tells us it'll be Kevin Owens.

How do you guys see this situation playing out?

I hate “universal champion” and the title. Very lame but fits their “superstars “ approach and dead in arrival scripted promos.
