Sami Zayn Was Reportedly Stripped Of The IC Championship Because He Has Heat With WWE

Fans speculated that Sami Zayn may have been stripped of the Intercontinental Championship because of some backstage heat with the powers that be, and a new report seemingly confirms this to be the case.

Sami Zayn is no longer the Intercontinental Champion after being stripped of the title earlier this week. A Tournament will now be held to crown a new champion.

WWE didn't go into detail on why Zayn was forced the drop the title at the time of the announcement, but it was believed to be down to the Canadian Superstar not wanting to work during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. This didn't sit right with fans, however, because WWE supposedly made it clear that any Superstar or employee that didn't want top work during the pandemic was free to stay at home.

Now, Sami is seemingly being punished for deciding to be responsible and stay as safe as possible, while Andrade, for example, was allowed to hold on to the United States Championship for almost two months when he was suspended for a wellness policy violation.

According to The Wrestling Observer, Zayn's decision to stay at home and not travel to tapings was met with “a lot of unhappiness.” There might well be more to the story, of course, but for now we have to assume this is at least part of the reason he was stripped of the title.

What do you guys think? Was this the right move? Who would you most like to see have a run with the IC Championship next?
