At
WrestleMania, Sasha Banks and Bayley lost the Women's Tag Team Championships to The IIconics but the division has mostly been forgotten about since. Now, The Bella Twins have revealed that they were set to feud with Billie Kay and Peyton Royce but when health issues put an end to that, WWE seemingly abandoned its plans to do anything at all with the titles.
"Brie and I, we were gonna come back and fight for the tag titles after WrestleMania and we were gonna go against The IIconics for a few months," Nikki recently revealed. "Deep down inside, I kept having this weird feeling that I needed to get an x-ray on my neck because for a while I wasn’t feeling okay. Brie knows that in December after Evolution, I just kept telling her that I feel off and my head doesn’t feel right..."
Brie added that "We had our gear, we had everything," while Nikki chimed in to say, "We were ready. Bella Twins were coming back in a big way."
The plan was for them to return on the SmackDown Live after WrestleMania 35 but Nikki's MRI results changed things when doctors informed her that she had inflammation around the metal of her neck and that it had become fully herniated. When a cyst on her brain was discovered, it became apparent that one bad bump could leave her paralysed.
This also sheds some light on why WWE has done nothing with The IIconics in recent months but you wouldn't think it would be that hard to give the women's tag team division the spotlight when there are plenty of teams who could have taken the place of The Bellas...
